HOME REMODELING TRENDS TO TRY OUT IN 2019
Now that we are in the throes of the new year, you may be itching for a change. And the best place to start this new change is within your home! After all, your home is where you spend the most time, and where you want to be most comfortable. But when approaching a remodel or redesign, it’s always good to keep in mind the latest design and architecture trends.
Here are some of the top home remodeling trends to try out in 2019. So go ahead and be inspired
White is out
You may have heard that when decorating your home, all white is the way to go. This is not necessarily the case anymore, as white rooms are not only looking more and more dated, they are not as practical as they could be. Instead of white, choose a nice pastel color to add versatility and comfort to your home. Think pale blue, light green, yellow, and gray — pick one color and then run with it for a monochromatic look.
Terrazzo tile everywhere
Terrazzo tile is a mix of glass chips, marble, and granite pieces embedded in cement. It is used primarily as countertops and backsplashes in bathrooms, but home owners don’t have to keep this pretty tile to the smallest room in the home. There are plenty of ways you can incorporate terrazzo into your kitchen as a countertop, or a bathroomas an accent sink. The key to working with this material is to let it be the focal point of your room, and do not over decorate. The last thing you want is for a room to end up looking cluttered.
You may think that if you decorate with a print, that print is the only one you can use in your room. But that may not necessarily be the case. In 2019, opposites attract, so don’t be afraid to experiment with bold prints of all kinds. If you’re nervous about going too bold, don’t fret. There are a few different ways you can accomplish this effect without going overboard:
- Have a few different patterned pillows on a muted color couch
- Have two different patterned armchairs stand out as focal pieces in a room that is otherwise a subdued color
- Try out a bedspread and curtains in the same color scheme but different pattern
- Using unique hand and body towels in the bathroom as accent pieces
Bigger and boxy furniture has been the norm for decades. It is all too easy to just invest in the standard couch, armchair, even bedframe with a straight back. But the problem is that these pieces don’t add any movement to the room! Instead, invest in curvier furniture, so your guest’s eyes move around the entire space. Consider chaise lounges, couches with curved backs or circular ottomans to make your room look upscale and modern.
Black and dark toned kitchens are popping up everywhere as an elegant and sophisticated option to traditional kitchens. Painting your walls black, using black countertops and black accents is a great way to add drama while creating a very memorable room. Plus, you are less likely to see stains and spills when the majority of the room is a darker color. In order to make sure the room doesn’t get too dark, keep one large part of the room a lighter color, such as a gray floor or a white ceiling.
